[How To] Re-read The Partition Table Without Rebooting Linux System

The following commands can be run to achieve this:

# “partprobe” or “partprobe /dev/sda”

# “hdparm -z /dev/sda”

# “echo 1 > /sys/block/sda/device/rescan”

In case there are any errors reported, NFS or Samba services may be locking any files. In this case, you may try stopping these services then re-run the command(s).

On Gentoo, you may also run:

# rescan-scsi-bus

//you need to install the package first, by running "emerge rescan-scsi-bus"
